With newsletters, birthday emails, and sales emails, sure, this will make your clients happy. How about sending tips and examples? For instance, using the camera product again, once a month you could do a feature of one of your clients who sent in a photo they took using the camera they purchased from you. In the email, mention what camera they were using.
With email marketing, you can include promo codes for customers too. It can go beyond their birthday. If you have a product that becomes more useful in one season, send a special promo code to your clients inbox that represents the new season like SPRING10.
In short, email marketing can help you to establish credibility and value and help you grow your brand.

How to Get Started

First thing you need to know is why. What is your goal for creating an email marketing campaign? Are you trying to engage further with your audience or drive more sales leads? Defining your goals will help you to create a plan and therefore, end up successful in this new venture.
Next you are going to need an email list. You can export one if you have it, or you can build one from scratch. More often than not, you will have to create an incentive in exchange for that email address. For example, when you signup on my website, you will receive an email with a link to download my free Meal Plan guide. In exchange for this guide, I have procured the engaged email address to add to my list.
From there you can begin deciding and creating on what type of campaign to create. Maybe you create a monthly newsletter or sales campaign, or maybe you start out with a welcome email. Decide and create something beautiful.
Finally you can measure your results! Was the campaign a success or a dud? What can you do differently? How many click-throughs did you get?  What was your send rate? Were all of your emails successful? Were they all opened?
Remember, practice makes perfect. The more you do this, the more you will learn what works and what doesn’t.
